Sub-Saharan Africa faces the largest gaps of any region globally in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 of good health and wellbeing for all. However, achieving universal health coverage is contingent on having well-capacitated public health teams that can drive the implementation of complex national health systems in an efficient and effective manner.

An expert in public sector leadership and management

AMP Health works to improve health systems and outcomes by partnering with governments to strengthen the leadership and management capacity of ministries of health. AMP Health’s approach combines embedded mentoring and capability development, experiential learning through interactive in-person and online training, executive coaching, and peer exchange across countries. This public-private partnership approach fosters the development of highly effective health teams and facilitates the adoption of innovative technologies and evidence-based practices to improve access to quality healthcare for underserved communities. Since its inception in 2015, AMP Health has partnered with over 27 health teams in 15 countries, reaching more than 700 people. By 2030, AMP aims to have partnered with at least 50 ministry of health teams and capacitated 2,500 individuals across the continent.

Alignment with LGT VP’s healthcare strategy

LGT VP’s healthcare strategy is founded on the principle that governments should be the funders and implementers of healthcare at scale. AMP contributes to this vision by improving the capacity of governments to adopt and scale proven interventions from direct service implementers such as Muso and Last Mile Health. This amplifies the impact of our funding while also ensuring sustainability at scale.

LGT VP Africa Lead, Nava Anvari states: “Our extended partnership with AMP Health represents our commitment to strengthening public health systems in Sub-Saharan Africa through leadership development and institutional capacity building. By investing in AMP’s model, we aim to accelerate the adoption of proven community health interventions within government systems to improve long-term healthcare outcomes. This partnership is aligned with our broader healthcare strategy to empower governments to lead and finance these community health solutions at scale as the key intervention to achieving universal health coverage across the continent”.

Dr Robert Newman, Executive Director at AMP Health adds: “We are encouraged by our partnership extension with LGT VP and eager to continue working towards our shared vision of strengthened public sector teams capable of developing and implementing integrated healthcare systems and solutions to improve health outcomes across the continent. This renewed collaboration will allow us to deepen our impact in partner countries and reaffirm our commitment to building effective teams that drive sustainable change”.
